Healthy Meat

When people think of Healthy Meat, chicken is usually the first thing that comes to their mind. This might be true when compared to a hamburger or pork. Others might think of other healthy meats, especially if they are fishers or hunters.

But do they truly know just how healthy what they hunt and fish is?

Fish is an extremely healthy meat for the human body because of the Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3’s are fatty acids that do not convert into fat, like the acids in red meat do.

Omega-3 fatty acids are also therapeutic. They help keep your blood from clotting excessively; lower the amount of fats, like cholesterol, in the bloodstream; and reduce the risk of obesity.

However you must be careful when eating fish because they have can have Methyl Mercury in them. High Methyl Mercury is a result of pollution, and is found in all fish, but at different levels. This is more a concern pregnant and nursing women have to worry about though.

Some Healthy Meat that is extremely good for you and that you don’t have to worry much about are meats like elk, bison, moose, caribou, wild boar, alligator, and ostrich—food we don’t normally eat.

The reason all these meats are so healthy by being less fatty and tastier is because these animals are not, for the most part, raised to be slaughtered to be eaten. They are not given growth hormones or steroids or any other kind of enhancement to make them grow faster or to be bigger. They usually age naturally on a natural diet with lots of exercise.

For example Bison meat is one of the best tasting healthiest meats around.

Bison Nutrition Comparison
Serving (3 oz.) Calories Protein (g) Fat (g) Cholesterol (mg)
Bison 85 18 2 49
Ostrich 97 22 2 58
Chicken (skinless) 140 27 3 73
Turkey (skinless) 135 25 3 59
Beef (lean, steak) 240 23 15 77
Pork (lean, loin) 275 24 19 84

So if you truly want to live healthy and you don’t feel like becoming a vegan or vegetarian you might want to try a diet of the American delicacies.

At one time Bison was nearly extinct, but America and its wildlife refuges and parks have brought the bison back into existence so that people could once again benefit from its meat. (And other parts of course)

So start the Healthy Meat eating now. It’s a healthy new experience that you will learn and benefit from.
