Making a Meal with Hungarian Sausage

Hungarian sausage is a spicy sausage made with paprika, garlic and salt. Hungarian sausage is often compared to pepperoni but it does tend to have a sweeter taste. Hungarian sausage can be accompanied by a variety of sauces and side dishes. The accompaniments that follow are just a few that you can use when serving Hungarian sausage.

Hungarian sausage is very easy to cook. Simply add the Hungarian sausage to a pan and add ½ inch of water to the pan with the Hungarian Sausage. Cover the Hungarian sausage and bring to a boil.

Once the pan of water comes to a boil, lower the heat and simmer the Hungarian sausage until it starts to become colorful. Turn the Hungarian sausage often to avoid burning it and add additional water to the Hungarian sausage as necessary. Once the Hungarian sausage is a brownish red color it is done.

One sauce that goes very well with Hungarian sausage is a sour cream and horse-radish sauce. This sauce is not only very simple to make but also complements the flavor of Hungarian sausage.

To prepare this sauce simply combine the following ingredients: 2 cups of sour cream, 4 tablespoons of horse-radish, 2 teaspoons of sugar and ½ teaspoon of salt. Once the ingredients are combined you simply serve them on the side of a serving of Hungarian sausage. This sauce can also be served directly over the Hungarian sausage if you prefer. This sauce is a classic way to dress up a meal of Hungarian sausage.

A simple side dish that goes extremely well with Hungarian sausage is Hungarian mashed potatoes. These simple mashed potatoes are made by combining mashed potatoes with sour cream, butter and salt and baking with melted butter on top until the top turns a golden brown. A side dish of potatoes is very complementary to the taste of Hungarian sausage.

Once you have prepared your Hungarian sausage, it is important to then serve it with an appropriate sauce and side dish to really turn your Hungarian sausage into a meal. While Hungarian sausage alone is tasty the addition of a sauce and a side dish creates a satisfying meal.
